The benefits of microfiber leather and why EBMINI uses it for children's shoes

Microfiber leather is a type of synthetic leather that consists of a nonwoven microfiber fabric covered with a high-quality polyurethane (PU) resin coating.

In the shoe industry, microfiber leather is considered the most modern and highest-quality form of synthetic leather. It represents a significant improvement over conventional PU leather, which is simply a fabric coated with polyurethane.

What are the properties of microfiber leather?

  • Looks and feels like real leather

  • Breathable

  • Antibacterial and odor-inhibiting

  • Light

  • Water-repellent

  • Environmentally friendly

  • Washable

Why is microfiber leather ideal for shoes?

Artificial leather used to be considered unsuitable for high-quality shoes – microfiber leather has changed that.
It is particularly resistant to weather influences and daily running or racing – even over a longer period of time.
Microfiber leather retains its shape very well and, with proper care, is extremely durable. It's also lighter and more water-resistant than genuine leather—ideal for everyday wear and outdoor activities.

More environmentally friendly thanks to microfiber leather

Recognized as vegan leather by PETA , microfiber leather has less than half the ecological footprint of animal leather.
Animal leather has more than twice the environmental impact of polyurethane.
EBMINI originally used genuine leather, but tanning animal skin requires chemicals and heavy metals – the process is not environmentally friendly.

To guarantee a more sustainable and safe production, EBMINI now relies exclusively on high-quality microfiber leather .

Tested and safe – official laboratory testing

To ensure you can offer your child only the best, we have our materials regularly tested by independent laboratories.
The latest material test report from March 2025 (Report No. ZFLJ3025006443-1) confirms:

  • Formaldehyde: Not detectable (below the limits for baby shoes)

  • Heavy metals (lead, cadmium): Not detectable

  • Phthalates (plasticizers): Not detectable

All test results comply with the current GB 30585-2024 safety standards for children's and baby shoes. Among the items tested were:

  • Beige and white microfiber leather

  • Mesh materials in apricot and off-white

Safe for sensitive children's skin
No harmful chemicals

The adhesive also makes the difference

To manufacture our children's shoes, we only use environmentally friendly, water-based adhesives that are free from harmful solvents.
These adhesives comply with the international environmental standard ISO 14001:2015 and enable environmentally friendly, safe production – without compromising on durability.
